It occurred to me the other day that the so-called Teaparty people want things to go back to how they were when they were children. Depending on how old they are and where they come from, that can mean racial discrimination of various degrees.
They want to go back to the feeling that most of their parents had, that America was the best thing in the world, that our wars were just, our dollar sound, our motives good, our inventions of unsurpassed ingenuity, our gasoline cheap, our patriotism sincere, our values Christian, our armed forces unbeatable, our homegrown sports the best, and if you were out of Schlitz you were out of beer.
They love the past and fear the future. Sarah Palin reminds them of Mom and Glenn Beck reminds them of their Teddy bear. |
