Given Intel's reputation for
shrinking circuits, I suppose I should be worried now.

INTC is expert at adding more transistors on thier silicon but 3Com and many other companies have done very well in shrinking the size of circuit boards, especially the ones that go into PC Cards. One thing I didn't mention in a previous post about modem power requirements is that modems require a transformer. They (Transformer manufacturers) have been able to shrink their iron core tranformers down to a SMT (Surface Mount Technology) package that can fit on a PC Card modem but you can only shrink iron so far. I need to do some research into these so called modem chips and their power requirements because I just don't see how you can just ad a chip to a motherboard and presto-you have a working modem.

Wasn't it Analog Devices that has a modem chip?
