Whatever the reasons, it means it is better where they go to, all considered.

You can pretend that the Indiaserfs are happy low paid workers who just love the flies and filth. But they are not. For the same reason they escape when they can, Kiwis are fleeing NZ for Oz and elsewhere. It's better where they aren't so they go.

Have a look at the Mexican border to see how many people make a break for it when they get a chance. Or not much chance. Swarms want to join the USA.

It would be better for New Zealanders to still be part of the British Empire, but we were evicted. Same for Indians if they hadn't left.

That's not to say the British Empire was as good as it gets. Far from it. Perhaps the fragmented international landscape will open the way for Tradable Citizenships within innovative countries. At present it's a Balkanized world with severe limitations on nearly everyone.
