Salman Hossain is believed to be hiding in Bangladesh after he fled Canada during a police investigation into his use of the Internet to promote terrorist violence.

Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010

TORONTO — Police are looking into a newly launched Internet site, run by a wanted “jihadist” from Ontario, that urges terrorists to kill Canadians using dirty bombs.

The website is registered to Salman Hossain, a 25-year-old Canadian extremist who is already sought by Ontario Provincial Police for advocating the genocide of Jews.

Despite being on Interpol’s worldwide fugitive list, Mr. Hossain has apparently resumed inciting racist violence on a new version of his website hosted by a U.S. Internet server.

“I can tell you that our Hate Crimes and Extremism Unit is reviewing that site to determine what our involvement would be,” said Inspector Dave Ross, the OPP spokesman.

“And obviously with a site like that we have to look at the content of the site, location of the site, anyone that would be associated with the site to see whether we had jurisdiction.”

A self-described associated of the Toronto 18 terrorists, Mr. Hossain fled Canada earlier this year during a police investigation into his use of the Internet to promote terrorist violence in Canada.

Police subsequently charged him with five hate crimes — two counts of advocating a genocide and three counts of promoting hatred — but they have so far been unable to locate him.

After the charges were announced, his website was shut down. But he returned to the Internet in late October, on the U.S.-based “free speech” server 1st-amendment.net.

The website is registered to Mr. Hossain and an organization called Muqawamah Al Islamiya, which means Islamic Resistance. The registration address he provided appears to be fake.

The posts on the site continue on the Nazi-like themes that resulted in the unprecedented genocide charges against Mr. Hossain: that Jews are “subhuman” and must be “exterminated.” However, the new site goes further, calling for the killing of all Canadians.

“The Western world deserves genocide,” he wrote in a Nov. 18 post. “The easiest way to commit a successful genocide would be to essentially spread dirty bombs and nuclear radiation throughout Canada and the United States.”

Attacking the West is a “very noble cause” and would “cleanse it of its Jewish populations,” he added. “I want to see millions of civilians exterminated in a successful genocide operation.”

Police have been investigating Mr. Hossain on and off since 2006. He was studying at York University in March when the OPP began investigating him for writing on-line that Jews should be “slaughtered” and subjected to mass deportations and executions.

He was suspended from the university but by the time charges were approved on June 29 by Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley, he had left Canada. He is believed to be hiding in Bangladesh, where he was born before immigrating to the Toronto area with his parents.

Details of the case, obtained by the National Post, show the charges relate to statements he made between Nov. 1, 2006 and January 31, 2008 on the blog Xymphora.Blogspot.com and the website Bilal-music.com.

Two of the charges also stem from comments posted on a website formerly administered by Mr. Hossain, filthyjewishterrorists.com. The new website is called filthyjewishterrorists.org.

The web server, 1st-amendement.net, did not respond to interview requests. The company’s policy says it does not host sites that support illegal activities, encourage bodily harm or support terrorist groups that target the U.S.

Insp. Ross said the OPP investigation was “very much ongoing” and that police were “attempting to locate Mr. Hossain and bring him to justice. We do still have the outstanding arrest warrant for him. We’ve been following up information as it comes in.”
