Let me add that mining in Peru is very different from mining in Bolivia; in general there is a much more reliable regulatory regime. That said, it also differs from valley to valley: some areas have centuries-long involvement in mining and are gung ho if you treat them right; some don't have that tradition but are eager for development if it is done right; and some are not interested at all. Add in racial and class differences and you have a complex situation, so we had best hope our man on the ground has a handle on these things.

Bottom line: I have made a lot of money investing in mining in Peru, and still have a lot of money deployed there. If the company operates ethically there is little to worry about.
