I suspect you are judging Rice by association rather than on her own merits. She was very qualified when she first went to Washington and got involved with the transition from Cold War Russia, as that was related to her area of Study at Stanford, where her mentor was the father (Josef Korbel) of Madeline Albright. She made that whole thing run smooth and most people have no clue how rocky it would have gone if not for her involvement. Later she did an excellent job as Stanford Provost where she was able to help get Stanford out of trouble financially, she broke a lot of new ground for diversity in the process, something she does not hold up and wave like a flag. She made connections and networked with people who would later strengthen her performance as Secretary of State, which was flawless. She is humble and unassuming and has done some amazing things which she did not seek recognition for. Slamming her simply for her association with Bush is unjust.
