I believe that your assessment is correct as I placed a call to one of the engineers at IBM's Almaden Research Center. He said that the anouncement on GMR technology has only to do with the disc drive heads and that the increase in capacity uses scaled versions of present format discs. He had no knowledge of KM nor did he rule it out, only saying that his area of work deals with the heads. John R.
