Collecting used bottles was my first commercial enterprise [as a child on holidays]. It was highly profitable to go along the beach dragging an old sack while young adults were still asleep and hungover on New Year's Day. Beer bottles and the more profitable soft drink bottles were lying about in profusion. Flagons [beer] were the best at 2 shillings each. Beer bottles were only a penny each.

We were saving the environment way back then, in Brazil and New Zealand.
