All that b/a size means is the number of visible shares available for purchase or sale, it is not a ratio (although you can infer one if you choose).

In other words, if you sell 2000 at market (using the closing example) 1000 will fill at 6 5/8 and the other 1000 may or may not fill at 6 5/8 depending on the MMs real intention. If you put in a bid to buy 2000 at market you should be filled (at 6 3/4).

Sometimes you can use these values as an indicator as to what it is going to take to move the bid/ask but it is not reliable. MMs can manipulate these figures if people are looking at them.

Suppose they want you to buy. They could make the ask size 500 and the bid size 5000, creating the impression that your buy will start the ball rolling. You buy 500 and suddenly the b/a drops.

The trend (uP/DOWN) is simply an indication of the last tick in value (not in size)
