The more rigorous fallout activity has happened in the last few weeks though and could show as good earnings for them for the next Q, the subsequent Qs would show deceleration in earnings if indeed we are in a bear. Now assuming that the market is forward looking, one could argue that the prices of the brokergae stocks would fall NOW in anticipation of bad earnings ahead but the problem here is not all the analysts agree that we are in a confirmed bear market to see what might be coming; most pretty much expect at this time to be a bull correction and that the markets will come back up later on. I am just being a devil's advocate trying to assess the risk in shorting brokerages.
