Jack,
I don't do TA, but I think the buying might have to do with the emergence of Borland as one of the best Java tool companies. With Microsoft getting slammed for their alleged tweaking of Java, there might also be a crowd who feel that the easiest way for Microsoft to demonstrate their respect for standards is to purchase Borland (rather like a backdoor way for Microsoft to stick it to Oracle...). There certainly is a need to get improved Java performance, and, personally, I've been more excited in learning Java than any other language since I got my first PC.
Borland's other tools are gaining acceptance, but I think it's the JBuilder product that's going to be viewed as the start of a major comeback for Borland.
I also like the language wars in this folder. Even with all the goading going on between some of you here, it's obvious to me you all, as a rule, know what you're talking about and are passionate about your opinions.
