I was referring to you Maurice, not how difficult your ancestors had it.
<<Lucky Maurice, for his fortunate accident of birth and subsequent trail of education and jobs >> is the accurate quote.
Yes your V.V.V upbringing by two caring family members with some tough life experience, were able to steer you in the right direction of finding work and education, because it was available.
The point made, was there is little to no work, little opportunity and no way out on many northern reserves.. at that time and how well would five year old Maurice have done under these circumstances? I think the answer that would make sense would be probably "not very well."Or at the very least, your path under these circumstances, would have been not as successful, assuming you are successful.
<< I accept from the government whatever I'm legally entitled to.>>
Spoken like a true libertarian, and freemarketeer...hypocrite,... and bludger same as those bludgers you are referring to many of them are paying into the system also.
<<We have laws and I live by them. I pay taxes as required and collect money and services as I'm able. >>
Certainly not the daily line you have been expounding.."everything government does is evil"..lol
<<It's quite annoying to be treated as though I'm some kind of royalty who had it handed to me. >>
It is also quite annoying to be hammered by your Noblesse Oblige shtic ...as if you are noble....to be truly noble, empathy is required but not much demonstrated.
<<Especially by a presumed state bludger living the cushy life on the tax payer's tit and voting for more of the same.>>
Is that directed at moi???The large company i worked for offered a decent pension and i was wise enough to take it, after putting in close to 300 K of my earnings.
Yes when it was time for Canada pension I applied for it, and also applied for Old Age security pension at age 65( subject to claw back)..i recognise that some governments "occasionally " do some decent things for their citizens ...unlike you..until your last post, finally admitting to bludging, taking from the government that you hate and make fun of..you reminded me again of Ronald Regan, looking down his nose and preaching against Canadian Socialized medicine all his life, and then happily collecting from the same socialized medicine(medicare) trough as soon as he turned 65 untill he died at 92..that defines a hypocrite.
<<Of course I have a cultural norm derived from those around me, but the cultural control is nowhere near as total as you suggest.>>
I am from humble beginnings, with addictions in the mix, then, so recognize to be partially true, however there are situations as described putting five year old Maurice, in with no mentors, no prospects and no way out.. the prosperous happy outcome might be in doubt. |
