I'm not sure what you mean by "classical" in this sense. Many
good combi-chem programs are actually hidden in other companies.
Versicor is an example of this. It is a subsidiary of Sepracor
and utilizes Sepracor's chiral chemistry to develop libraries.
Many other companies simply have good in-house programs.

There are also several good combi-chem companies that are not
yet public. 3D-Pharmaceuticals is a great example. CombiChem
is another interesting company although I don't follow them too
closely. I don't think they are public.

There are also some really cool venture cap companies that look
promising. One such company is Gryphon Sciences, who utilizes
non-standard amino acid side chains and non-natural peptide
backbone linkages to generate very novel libraries. Molecumetics
is another company utilizing peptide scaffolds.

The truth is that there are only a few publicly traded pure plays
in this area. Who else, NeXstar... Tripos... I probably missed a
few but this should give you a start

I hope this helps
