Those were then unthinkable prices (20) - probably no option available.

When stock was at $45 if you felt you were "full", the thing to do was sell calls (say, Feb 40 for $8) and buy puts. If you're trying to make an income out of it you have to buy the puts deeper than the call protection - there's really no safe way to do it, and no time is a safe time. Being short calls sticks you with the stock or an extra couple of points (net) to exit.
