In the case of both places, the scenery and weather varies depending where you are. Coastal SC does have nice weather .... but how much a year is that worth? And is CA the cheapest place to get that?

As for comparing CA with NY for young engineers, thats not relevant to the discussion.

An in ground pool adds no value to a house and as a condition of sale the owner may often have to allow money for it's removal Uh huh, my pool is beautiful though.

You can get a much cheaper house in WVA or in the coal region of PA No, I live in a cheap place already with better winters.
