"First, I don't spit on anyone! My brother went to Vietnam and was hurt real badly."

I now recall you having said that once before. Tell him, "Welcome home," and "Thank you for your service".

"Yes, I see Macarthyism rising and I call it the rightwing."

You are making an inappropriate generalization as there are gradients of Right, just are there are of Left.

"I would remind you Joe Macrthy was a Republican right winger, as was the John birch society."

Another generalization lumping all of those on the Right with extremists. By the way, the Birchers are still around as an organized group, MacCarhyites are not.

"The liberals have been the party of freedom and humanity."

Liberals, in their zeal to make everyone equal, are blind to the damage they do. ...too many holding onto outdated Existentialist ideals while trying to find themselves. Having said that, some Liberals know what damage they are doing and they want more. They see it as the only way to take over.
That is, they want to kill entirely the system they detest, and hope to be the only ones left to rebuild society, and to do so in their image.

Moreover, you can't make everyone equal without imposing severe limits on freedom. There is nothing humane in that! BTW, ensuring that everyone is allowed equal opportunity to effect their own place in life is about as humane as you can get. Fostering a psychology of dependence is not humane. It puts people in virtual cages, robbing them of motivation and personal responsibility.

"It was the liberals who fought (the conservatives)on salvery, helping women get the vote, fought segregation and are now fighting gay bashing."

Again, you generalizing and distorting history. Are you saying the Civil War issue of slavery was one of a Liberal cause? Is that why the North fought secession? Are you saying the south was controlled by Republicans? Geez!

Helping women get the vote? What does does that mean? If I carry my professors books between his office and his classroom, I am an adjunct professor of whatever field as I helped. I don't get your meaning, after all Washington was politically divided when the rights act was passed in 1919, with Dems having a firm control of the House, and Republicans the Senate.

Hey, was is not Southern Democrats who fought integration so furiously. You know, I happened to have lived in Montgomery, AL during the Freedom Rider riots.* The rioters were not Republicans. When have Republican every been associated with riots? Was it not Liberals and democrats on both sides during the DNC riots in Chicago in '68? Geez, again!

"Who is fighting DADT!? Who did not vote for the 64 civil rights act! Almost all conservatives!"

Gay bashing? Hm, well, that sounds line another generalization. I happen to know that the Liberals most hated news source, Fox News, is very accepting and sympathetic to gay issues. I know one of their key people who is not only gay, but happens also to be their lead in reporting on gay issues. I also know gay Republicans. So, geez, one more time!

As to the '64 Civil Rights Act, YOUR FACTS ARE WRONG!
spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk GEEZ!

"In every single instance it was conservatives we opposed!"

Yeah, Right!

VP in AZ

* I lived in AL for 3.5 years and went to high school there as the Freedom Rider Riots were going on. I went to school with kids who bragged about their older brothers and fathers being there, wielding sawed off baseball bats. ...not a pleasant experience for one coming from an international school overseas, never having before had personal experience with racism, though I had lived in very mixed populations to that time. I knew almost no Republicans in AL back then, so I know first hand of what I speak.
