I also strongly feel that personhood extends into the prenatal timeline. I have a genuine memory with a prenatal component. By at latest the start of the eighth month in utero, fetuses (feti!) (not to be confused with the plural of a Yetus) (oh right. No myth. My bad) can live independently after being delivered, and they develop into physically and mentally healthy babies.
Imo it is important to include this stage into the envelope of personhood. It provides a sensible moral bulwark against the distateful practice of "partial birth abortion" as practiced by the Chicoms.
The question that I cannot answer de novo is where (between conception, where we have a small speck of mucus that I think is absurd to call a person, and birth, at which point personhood is universally accepted) (except by such favorites of angry religionists as Singer and Himmler) to assign a starting point for personhood.
Maybe it's a sign of advancing age, but I have very little patience with doctrinal arguments, which invariably set the point extra super early. I suspect that a big motive for that is punitive ... it puts some real teeth into arguments for just not having sex. Completely arbitrary teeth, but real ones.
I don't think that science and philosophy are advanced enough to take up the slack and give us a biologically and ethically sound way to say "we found it; personhood begins here on the developmental timeline". So I conclude that all we have at this time is subjective opinion, whether or not it is dressed up in jesuitry ... or maoistry.
