I have my doubts that strategy would work at this particular time. Most Americans don't feel that strongly about our military adventurism since their kids aren't being drafted as cannon fodder.
My guess is Obama is walking a very precarious tightrope, hoping to win re-election as the lesser of two evils, knowing his election in 2010 was a fluke. So he is trying to lay claim on a chunk of voters in the middle-right/independent group, thinking most Democrats will have no choice but to vote for him. A very risky strategy.
Then, there's the possibility Bloomberg could jump in and provide a Ross Perot wildcard in 2012.
The bottom line: The economy will probably determine who gets elected in 2012. After all we are a 'consumer economy.' Barf.
