Have you read Michael Crichton's autobiographical book "Travels"? He talks about two kinds of traveling, geographic and ... astral, for lack of a better term. He has a solid scientific background; in fact writing "science thrillers" is what made him famous and perhaps even rich. In the book he describes a variety of interactions with spirits, energy, related phenomena. On the one hand, I have never encountered any of the cool stuff he describes. (I have tried.) Otoh ... I don't and won't say he didn't have the experiences. I suspect you'll enjoy the book. I did.
