Videogames High on Wish
List

November 12, 1997

More than a quarter of those planning to purchase
toys this holiday season will be buying computer
software according to the American Express Retail
Index.

Strong predictions for the holiday season continue as the American
Express Retail Index promises a strong showing for videogame
software. Sixty per cent of all holiday shoppers plan to buy toys
this year. Of those buyers, 27 percent stated that they would be
buying computer games.

Also, when asked to list the hottest toys for the season, shoppers
picked the Sony PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 as 'hot items'.
This should bode well for the industry as they reap the rewards of
higher spending budgets (an average of $1,233 this year vs.
$1,160 per shopper last year), and higher profile videogame
software.
