Meta, the other way to look at it is that the deceased has already likely paid taxes on much of the estate .. so this equates to a double taxation... I have not worked to put away my quite modest stash to give half to the government which has proven time again to be incredibly wasteful and self rewarding .... Also my kids work hard and have earned the leftovers.. I frankly am doing my best to pass on as much as possible before I die... hopefully I'll die broke.. I've paid my fair share of taxes... why should my after tax dollars be taxed again... What has the government earned ? TBS
