HONG KONG, CHINA, 1997 NOV 10 (NB) -- By Tina Chan, IT Daily. With hopes to supply the demand for certified engineers, which is growing rapidly in China, Novell Hong Kong [NASDAQ:NOVL] has appointed Fillip Routing Computer Training Center as a Novell Authorized Education Center (NAEC), which will offer Novell certification courses by the end of this month.
It's necessary to provide these training centers because the Hong Kong Polytechnic and other technical schools do not offer complete Novell training, according to Alex Tseng, area educational manager. The courses are open to Novell customers, channel partners and network engineers.
Fillip Routing has the largest number of Novell Certified Network Instructors in Hong Kong, making it an ideal partner. Other existing Novell training partners in Hong Kong include SystemPro, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, SiS, Drake and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, which provides training for its own employees. Tseng says the performance of each of these partners is evaluated each year, but this year, Novell will be cutting down the number of training partners to the very best, in order to cut costs.
The courses train networking professionals on Internet/intranet solutions, messaging, connectivity, client/network software, network management, and more. Novell has several categories of certification, the most popular seem to be the Certified Novell Engineer (CNE). "In Hong Kong, becoming a CNE is very important when a company wants to hire network engineers," Tseng says, "It's kind of like a green card for engineers." Tseng says although many engineers in Hong Kong are seeking Novell training, the demand for certified engineers in China is even greater. There are approximately 20,000 students undergoing Novell certification training in the PRC, and the number is expected to grow rapidly.
