PANIC in the marketplace over Year 2000 compliance is causing a shortage of computer technologists in Australia and soaking up the current crop of university graduates, says Chris Davies, principal of Computer Pro, a St Kilda Road IT recruitment consultancy.

"Demand is now far outstripping supply," he said. "We have gone back to the campuses again, but we are finding that the number of available graduates is less than expected. I think there is going to be a panic in January when people cannot meet the demands of their companies.
