I am irreligious but I am not amoral. Of course I don't support social engineering or eugenics.
In re abortion, I consider myself as a moderate. I would never be so callous as to put a human embryo on the same value scale as a pork chop or a kitten. Being irreligious gives me the freedom to ask if it really is necessary to invest said embryo with the panoply of rights accorded a newborn.
Where I do side with Solon is that I would be loath to see the right of a woman to choose whether to keep or abort an early-stage conceptus simply or categorically suspended. I am not saying "abortion, Yes". I am saying "ban abortion, No."
