The Fed lost control of their ability to produce any noticeable effect by making money easier.

But I think it is worth noticing that Bernanke said in the 60 minutes interview that the Fed could raise interest rates overnight in order to control inflation.

I did not take it very seriously some years ago when Bernanke quoted Milton Friedman about the helicopter drop. Then look what he did!

I am now willing to believe that he might be sufficiently power mad to drive interest rates up very abruptly. If this starts to look possible, I'll consider getting back into Tice's Prudent Bear fund.

Side note: the spellchecker for SI does not recognize the name Bernanke.
