No worries. I avoided the word up until... I was quite older. Fella doesn't fit. I suppose I shall just call you by your name. but sprinkle a dude here and there with others... not you. for some reason the word makes me laugh.
I still am, as always was, a social liberal. and I believe in SS and Medicare... I think those are socially liberal ideals that also fit conservative ideals - if conservative means caring for the elderly and diabled, which I think it does - but... I am rather rock hard when it comes to spending. yes, I would cut militray spending by at least half, but not for any liberal ideals, but for the conservative ideal that the cost is just plain stupid. and so forth.
When I was a teen and deciding parties, I went Independent because... seriously, the dem idea of 'welfare' was a fiasco, imo, and also racist, imo. the idea was still that them po' blacks just needed a check and a pat on the back. and public housing? what a fiasco. yes... plenty of racism there. saying blacks are okay by me is not the same thing as not thinking they really aren't capable... if you think people are capable, you don't just give a check, and if you really care you don't build public housing and then leave it to rot in a way that would get most landlords brought up on charges.
