I think you are confusing Christianity with organized religious bureaucracy - the same people that you often highlight as part of sex scandals.

Do me a favor. Take a look at Reinhold Niebuhr's writings or at Walter Rauschenbush or at recent Catholic theologians' theology of the poor.

You can argue that Niebuhr and Rauschenbush and others got the theology wrong but that argument is a theological argument. Or you can argue there are many interpretations available (which means the individual redemption version is simply one of many). But you can't argue that there are no serious theological interpretations within church tradition that emphasize social justice and the role of government.

One can point to no end of interpretive sources in scripture. But the moment Christianity became a state religion, the "only individual redemption version" became, at best, one interpretation among many.
