On average, yes, the living standard is improving and dramatically so. 20 years ago almost nobody had a cellphone in the USA. Now, anyone who wants one can have one. Not only that, but they are now Cyberphones, delivering Cyberspace right there into the palm of the hand, with free Google for goodness sakes. Not to mention the panoply of other free services. GPS, maps, Skype, all sorts.
70 years ago, the Great Depression was fading with ribs poking out of skin. Now, it's not clear that Americans have ribs.
For millions of years, having a big fat tummy was a measure of wealth. Now, anyone in the USA can have a big fat tummy and most of them have. Those who don't, choose to not have one.
It's a phenomenal standard of living.
