You sound newer than you are. What's left of SI is mostly reactionary old farts endlessly whining about having to pay taxes, as reading matter goes it's dumber than a bag of hammers and much less enlightening. Here you will find the daily celebration of all the standard rationales as to how what's good for the few is *always* best for everyone. If you are looking for shamelessly self-indulgent ideological circle jerking be sure to pack plenty of lotion so you don't chafe yourself beyond recognition. You can bet any thick, leathery palms you see around here didn't get that way from manual labor.

I have a parent who is in an independent living facility as she has become too absent minded to be left alone with cooking equipment and such. We frequently have lunch with her and her friends there. You might expect that conversation would be a lot like SI, but the place seems to bring together a broader cross section of the elderly population. Thank goodness, if I only had SI to go by I might think all retirees are fearful, small-minded, and completely fixated on their wealth as the measure of all things. They aren't.

The aging demographic of the SI message boards provides a real time view into the inexorable decline of the Boomers, a process which I believe will relieve the future of major excess baggage. I sometimes wonder who will become the center of the universe when the Boomers are all dead, it appears they believe it's a permanent position :-)
