There are women scientists today. Women didn't invent as many things in the past because for the most part they weren't allowed. As for inventing things man is quite arrogant. Most of our discoveries are really just finding out what already exists in nature and then building layer upon layer of complexity. If there were no men I have no doubt over a certain span of time most of the same inventions would come about but I suspect there would be more emphasis on impacts on family, society and the environment. I'm certainly not saying all men are bad, but many of our worst issues as a species are alpha male driven.

As for what constitutes success as a species that's something that I think needs to be revisited. Our technology has outpaced our political systems, economic and social systems imho. As a kid I used to think that if we simply had the right technology the planet would be better. Based on what I've seen thus far I don't think that's the case. Nor am I of the opinion that religion will do the trick either.
