For our entire adult lives, my wife and I have carefully balanced our family budget. We have always met all of our needs and had plenty left over. It's not rocket science. We simply spend less than what we earned. Our friends have accomplished the same. I'm confident that everyone reading this has a similar story.

I cannot begin to understand why the government cannot accomplish the same.

The LA Times occasionally posts a theoretical game of "Balance California's Budget" online. I played and erased the state's budget deficit with only a few minutes of effort. My efforts also produced a significant surplus along with tax cuts. I did not use any slight-of-hand shell game tactics. I simply cut spending, reduced the government's footprint, and allowed people to keep more of what they earned.

Since it is illogical to conclude that the people running the government are dumb or have little intelligence, the only logical excuse that explains their illogical behavior is they are perpetuating and expanding massive deficits on purpose, for personal gain.
