1. Turbulence Dead Ahead?

Many indicators show an overbought market with weakening internals and absolutely stunning extremes in bullish sentiment. At the same time there are indications that the US economy is actually slowing down, while the recent EU negotiations over how to best deal with the debt crisis promise no solution that will actually avert further turmoil. Muni bonds meanwhile keep crashing. Risk has now become extremely high.

2. Year End 2010 Real Estate Observations by Ramsey Su
Ramsey gives us a great summary of the precarious condition in which the US housing market and the mortgage credit business find themselves in at the end of the year. After the biggest government interventions in the history of these markets, they stand once again at the precipice.

3. A brief comment on the FOMC decision

The FOMC December decision itself brought absolutely nothing unexpected - essentially it was a carbon copy of the November decision. The usual yes-men and women assented to Bernanke's inflationary policy, the usual lone dissenter didn't. However, the public relations exercise by the chairman after the November meeting backfired mightily and next year he will face three hawks at the FOMC instead of just one. Unless risk asset markets really collapse, prepare for s slowdown or even a cessation of QE2 as the new year progresses. Meanwhile, China's inflation problem is even more advanced than Bernanke's - we see no good outcome there either.
