Like Apple, Sun, SGI, BEos, etc. Do you mean companies like these? You talk as if customer do not have a choice. They do, and they have made it. It is called Microsoft.

So basically, if I vend NSCP browsers, and the little default icon (and active hyperlink to NSCP's homepage) in the upper right hand corner is replaced with the IE 4 icon, along with an active link to MSFT's homepage, that would be acceptable to you? Not only will NSCP not allow vendors to do this, you must pay handsomely (in comparison) to alter thier browser as an end user, and even then you cannot alter thier logos and it's default links.
