TO ALL:

Just got back from Best Buy and it was a mad house. Right now at Best Buy you can purchase a Zip or Jazz for get this *NO Payments-No interest for 1 Year*. The sales clerk told me people were ravaging the Iomega stand. No Zips left when i got their so I waited for them
to pull more off the truck and bought one( I already have access to a Zip but the deal was to good to be true).

Has anyone heard about this in their area? Is Iomega dropping the price to Best Buy or is Best Buy trying to increase store traffic with this deal? I mean No payments No interest for 1 year for a $150 peripheral? No exageration it was crazy their!

Commenting on the Matshushita deal, IMO, it was much more than a hedge by Mat. Since early this year LS-120 backers and Iomegas bashers were calling the LS-120 the *new standard* with its backward compatibily.
Matshushita was quite confident in their assessment that the LS-120 would in fact become the new standard. You can say that Mat had a probability ratio on the LS120 becoming a standard at 70%. Now, sitting back watching the truck loads of Zips being sold and OEM agreements, Mat must have been thinking that their origianl assessment about the LS120 may have been wrong. Since its obvious to me at least that the Zip has been torpedoing the LS120(kind of like Pear Harbor) before it has even gotten out of the gate. With this deal one would imagine that Mat has raised their assessment on the Zip being a standard to at least 50% and hence lowering the LS120's probability from 70% to 50%.

At first glance this would be an insult to us Iomegans but it really is a quantum leap in psychology from the Technology industry as a whole. Its the past and present success of the Zip that is making other companies such as Mat to take heed of the potential. While the LS120 is just a pipe dream at present the Zip every single day makes its way into another home. Even if the LS120 is rammed down the throat of every Corp IS manager can it possibly catch up with the Zip
now. The lead and the *Momentum* that the Zip has behind it is self reinforcing and IMO can not be *stopped*
