I don't think it has been the will of the people to have assets spent away as bargaining chips, but we no longer have an enviable education system, excellence in business and industry, prestige in diplomatic affairs, or even that union of pioneering spirit. I would venture to say the points at which we know longer feel genuinely represented as individuals are the points at which something is being reaped, and the reaping has been going on for so long it probably does not even feel wrong to most people anymore. When I hear some one say, "Of course he is lying, all politicians lie," I hang may head... while not to long ago I objected to such declarations.
