UPDATE 1-North America Nov chip-gear orders fall 5.3 pct vs Oct

Dec 16 (Reuters) - North American semiconductor equipment
makers posted $1.51 billion in average worldwide bookings in
November, down 5.3 percent from October, the fourth consecutive
month of decline after the rapid climb since October 2009.

"Following a historic growth period and 18 months of
sequential growth, and in accordance with seasonal trends,
sales of semiconductor equipment eased in November," said
Stanley Myers, chief executive of Semiconductor Equipment and
Materials International (SEMI).

Book-to-bill ratio in November was 0.96, which means that
$96 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product
billed for the month.

U.S. chip equipment makers include Applied Materials Inc
, the world's biggest testing tools firm; KLA Tencor
Corp ; circuitry-etching tools company Lam Research
Corp and Novellus Systems Inc , which
specializes in preparing the surface of a silicon wafer before
the etching of circuits.

The SEMI book-to-bill is a ratio of three-month moving
averages of worldwide bookings and billings for North
America-based chip-equipment makers.

The data contained in the report was compiled by David
Powell Inc, an independent financial services firm, without
audit, from data submitted directly by the participants.

Billings and bookings figures are in millions of U.S.
dollars.
