CB, I can feel a new scientific theory coming on: <I do not rotate the map. North is north, and stays north. To do otherwise would give me a very bad headache. Can't even imagine it. Brrrr.>

People who rotate the map think of themselves as the centre of the Cosmos and those who do not rotate the map think of themselves as a responder to the Cosmos.

We should hasten to differentiate the groups into superior and inferior.

Those who rotate maps are imbued with a false sense of importance. They are pointing in a certain direction so the abstract world in their mind as represented by the map should adapt to that fact and also point in that direction so that everything matches up; their sense of self, the abstract realm their brain uses to represent reality, and the actual reality as perceived by their eyes.

Those who do not rotate maps have a very large scale model of the world in their brains in which they fit, the map fits and reality as perceived fits. We need to know where north or south are so we can fit the three together; eyes say north is 'that way', the map has north away from us, our minds have a model of the whole thing.

My scientific prediction [a theory needs a testable prediction] is that people who don't turn maps are better navigators and have higher intelligence than map turners.

This is an excellent theory and based on scientific principles similar to the scientific principles of Global Warming. A tax on map turners would be a good idea, with payments to those who don't turn maps. More research is needed so funding for further research is needed to confirm the data. Al Gore could do a movie and get his Second Chakra tickled.
