far fewer, I'm sure..but after the war, the government moved Northerners to that south, southerners didn't move to the north taking their religion with them. I don't think it so much because of government oppression of religion, they just weren't going to let southerners move to the north..and how many would want to anyway? Lots of northerners were moved into the land of ethnic minority tribes in order exert control...those hostilities still simmer.

Vietnam knows that religion is an issue that is watched closely by the world, so they try to keep their hands off the issue as much as possible.

The so-called communist government is much more interested in money. They oppress everyone fairly equally, from my observation..... I have much more experience in the south.
