We have people in Calgary who are stealing copper. They are moving out of the city to find more copper, usually wire. It's now a bylaw, all scrap metal yards have to register people who bring in copper for cash. All copper pennies in Canada are 95-98% copper up until 1996. After that they are now 98% zinc and as of 2000 they are steel.
