Verigy Ltd., a U.S. maker of testing equipment for semiconductor makers, is in merger talks with Advantest Corp., the New York Post reported, citing two unidentified people close to the matter.

Verigy, which already has a merger agreement with LTX- Credence Corp., is not “shutting out Advantest,” the newspaper cited one of its informants as saying.

Verigy didn’t return calls and Advantest couldn’t be reached, the Post said.

On Dec. 6, Verigy’s shares surged as much as 45 percent after the company received an unsolicited offer of $12.15 a share from Advantest; Verigy said then that the offer was “not superior” to the agreement with LTX-Credence.
