US accuses China of illegal wind power aid By Leslie Hook in Beijing Financial Times The US has accused China of unfairly subsidising its domestic wind industry, calling for talks with Beijing that could lead to a case at the World Trade Organisation. This comes at a time when China’s policies to promote domestic innovation in sectors like technology and clean energy are coming under increasing global scrutiny. The United States Trade Representative says a programme known as the Special Fund for Wind Power Manufacturing was providing hundreds of millions of dollars in grants to Chinese wind equipment makers, and excluding foreign-made components in contravention of WTO commitments. This fund provides grants of $6.7m to $22.5m and excludes foreign-made components, acting as an effective import substitution subsidy, the trade body said in a statement . ft.com
