Lighting Science Group Wins Bid to Relight Washington, D.C. with Ultra-efficient
LED Street Lights

Company's Long-Lasting and Maintenance-Free LED Street Lights will Save the City
Tens of Thousands of Dollars Each Year

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla., Dec. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Lighting Science
Group's (LSCG) high-performance PROLIFIC series LED street lights will soon line
the streets of Washington, D.C. Compared with traditional high pressure sodium
(HPS) street lights, the PROLIFIC LED series street lights are 50% more
efficient, provide more uniform light distribution, increase light levels, and
will save Washington, D.C. tens of thousands of dollars each year in energy and
maintenance costs. The new light fixtures will be paid for from American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds and will begin to be installed in early 2011.

"Creating more sustainable streets is one of the core goals of our Action
Agenda," said Gabe Klein, director of the District Department of Transportation
(DDOT). "One way to accomplish that is to reduce the amount of energy it takes to
power the 70,000 street and alley lights across the District. This is a great
first step in that direction."

The first of the new lights will be installed in alleys across the District,
beginning in Wards 7 and 8. Eventually DDOT plans to install energy-efficient
light fixtures throughout the city including all the alleys, streets, bridges,
tunnels and underpasses, pedestrian walkways, bike and running trails.

In conjunction with Howard University Transportation Research Center, DDOT
conducted a study and analysis of LED lighting products from a variety of vendors
and manufacturers. The study involved the evaluation and analyses of photometric
readings, fixture life, efficacy, aesthetics, color temperature, dimmability and
compatibility with remote monitoring and control systems. At the conclusion of
the Study, DDOT selected Lighting Science Group's PROLIFIC LSR-2 LED fixture as
the preferred choice to replace the District's existing lights.

"With rising energy costs across world, cities like Washington, D.C. are looking
for ways save energy--Lighting Science Group's LED products are an obvious
solution," said Zach Gibler, CEO of Lighting Science Group Corporation. "The LED
street lights provided will improve both the environment and the city's bottom
line by delivering a 50% energy savings over HPS street lights and will last
approximately five times as long. The Washington, D.C. project is another
significant win for Lighting Science Group in the infrastructure market and
exemplifies the clear leadership and high-performance capabilities of the
Company."
