Friedman is correct. Borrowing a trillion from China to give tax cuts is nothing. Any politician can do that as the Republicans will always go for tax cuts.

But try to cut defense that bush doubled for no damn reason. Cut 400 billion from the defense budget and reorganize medicare and raise social security taxes on the rich and raise taxes on rich.

We might have got that the last two years, but not teh next two years, for sure. All the Republicans know is tax cuts for the rich and cutting social programs. When have they ever done anything differently.

Obama had a chance to stop the Republican's destroying the country, but he didn't focus on it. Clinton left us in good shape and Bush squandered it all.

Germany is running at 9% GDP and has unions, welfare payments more generous than ours and all the rest.

So why are they doing so well? They invest monster amounts of money in education and research. The next Republican congress will never do that. In fact they want to get rid of the Dept of education.

We used to be first in education and health, but now we are in the middle of the pack in everything.

The single largest thing we can do to improve our lot is to increase education and give money to universities for R and D.

But the republicans will never do that. That is just more big government to them.
