My reasons for not letting my computer run 24/7 are two fold. One I feel the HD is a mechanical device and it will wear out faster. Second I don't like to waste things and if I'm actually using my computer an hour or so a day the other 23 hours is a waste of electricity and money. It's just a personal thing.
