Thoughtful as always -- but lets step back and consider it not from the point of view of a dissenter, but from the point of view of the people who HAVE benefitted. I know people down to the village level and they are very pleased with the gains they have made. Now, lets be real -- that does not mean it has been 'fair' or 'equal' -- nothing could be further from the truth. But to characterize economic development as you have is to look through distorted political lenses.

The real challenge will be to broaden and deepen the mobilization of Chinese resources for China -- while setting up a giant sucking machine to get their hands on the natural resources of other people -- sound familiar?. I do not have any way of knowing if they will pull it off -- and the damage to China has been tragic. But I would be a fool to bet against them.
