That's an interesting point of view, zc66. A company cannot survive with a better product because competitors are too strong, regardless of what the product offers. Hmmm. So, where is the competition in the marketplace? Seems that is what antitrust laws are all about.
But I disagree in any case. I think that offering a significantly faster machine for less money can keep AAPL profitable in its niche. No, it may not replace Wintel, but it may recapture previous 5-10% marketshare. Rhapsody, on the other hand, has the potential to displace Windows. Will it? Tough to know. Definitely, marketing and competitive antitrust issues will be dominant over technology in that outcome. Unless, corporate America becomes disenchanted with Microsoft complete office solution. First reports are that the product is not delivering to match the original hype, and some early adopters who switched from other stuff are not so happy to have done so.
I can tell you from personal experience that you pay a definite penalty when choosing Wintel over Mac on a desktop in terms of setup and maintenance. Unfortunately for Apple, they were never able to communicate this to the consumer, or the consumer did not feel this was worth the additional costs, real or opportunity.
By the way, how do your posts contribute to this thread? Your opinion prima facia is of no interest to anyone, and you present no analysis to back it up. In fact, your comments suggest you are very naive about Apple's technology. Just trolling? |
