Heck, I thought you already explained it pretty well. It just seems nobody else is listening. Its of little concern to me, as I won't live long enough to be affected by it very much. I just hope to profit off its initial post peak effects.

The down turn of oil stocks last year what with the BP oil spill provided an excellent opportunity for people to get in on the oil companies at a nice low price. Now it looks like oil stocks should rise nicely over the remainder of the current administration's term.

I suppose you don't remember the first oil crisis in 1973 with the gas stations lines, there was some kind of allocation scheme based on license plate numbers, etc. Being young and not risk averse, I remember thinking it was just a staged effect. So I took off from work and drove out to Utah from Travis AFB in Calif. I found gas to be no issue as I crossed the central basin. Plenty of gas in towns like Lovelock, Winnemucca, and Elko, Utah as well. Skiing was great, I went to Snowbird spending the week there then came back to Calif. I think the "crisis" started moderating after that. I don't recall as it left a rather muted impression.

This time around, you may have a true crisis, but IF it is real, it should stir up some aggressive exploration efforts before bringing on additional sources of supply through fracking, and harvesting oil shale and oil sands, liquified Natural Gas, Coal to gas processes, etc. So all of these efforts stand in the way of truly running the supply down to empty. Oh yes, harvesting all those lands declared "out of bounds" by the current or previous political entities. These curtailments will eventually fall away as any search gets serious. So I figure this crisis could be dragged out for many more decades. Then of course one needs to settle the issue that some people think oil is of abiotic origins, and not necessarily "fossil". Neither conjecture seems to have solid roots at this time. So there is that wait and see aspect as well. Patience will be required.

In the mean time I will occupy my time by trading Exxon for short term profits and bag a few dividends. This tactic seems to work pretty well for the time being. My time remaining is pretty limited.
