What it boils down to is: "Don't remodel anything built in 1978." The restrictions are getting tighter and tighter. One new one is full protective gear suits must be worn to replace 1978 or earlier windows and additional measures must be taken. They add a coupla $ hundred to each replacement window. A book of hundreds of more restrictive changes to the NC building code was just passed. Don't buy anything built in 1978 or earlier either.
