Bonnie, are you using Schwab's web site, or the dial-in software? My experience is that the web-site is almost always a joke, even after hours.

The dial-in software is great, except that I have to sign off the web to use it. On Monday Oct 27 I had did have a rare problem but came up with a work-around. As usual, I tried to log in from the quote screen, but got no response. Then on a hunch I tried logging in from the balance screen and it worked. When I switched to the quote screen, I got quotes, but they were MUCH slower than usual.

Another option would be to switch to a Schwab 500 account, which is available to those with at least $50K who trade at least 50 times/year. With this you get phone access to a special dedicated team of brokers who learn your trading style. You pay standard Schwab commissions minus some percentage (20% I think), plus additional discounts if you trade online. You can also use Telebroker, so there are a lot of ways to trade.

I have the Schwab 500 for my taxable account, and I just started an eSchwab account for my IRA. I'm attending a training class tomorrow at Schwab and I'm going to make a serious complaint to Schwab about their totally worthless web site.
