Balancing a budget is easy. I have done it every day of my adult life.
The only reason the federal, state, and local governments do not balance their budgets is because they choose not to out of completely selfish, self-centered, and self-serving reasons such as kick-backs, bribes, promises of future corporate "consulting" jobs, executive positions, and outright theft.
In today's world, winning an election for a government position is commensurate to winning the lottery.
When TARP was introduced, I wrote to each of Senators and Representatives, asking them not to vote for the measure. Initially, they publicly agreed, but quickly. they fell into line and voted for the damned bill!
Recently, the Tea Party candidates have talked a big game about standing up to the status quo. I continue to give them to benefit of the doubt. I have written to my Senators and Representatives again, asking them not to vote to increase the national debt ceiling, come what may.
We'll see if they have the courage to do so, or if they cower down like wussies and fall into line. |
